LOTTY DOTTY INTERACTIVE PAPER DOLL SHIRTS: GA GA OR GAG?

Updated 01/27/12 1:38 PM · Posted 01/27/12 8:36 AM by  · 3 comments

Telling your tot to “stop fidgeting with her clothes” takes on a whole new meaning these days. Paper dolls have moved off the table and onto the computer, so why shouldn’t they jump to your lil one’s shirts as well? Paris-based Lotty Dotty’s doll shirts ($45) are just the thing for budding fashionistas who can’t get enough of designing.

The interactive t-shirts allow kids to pick one of five “girls” to be silk-screened onto organic shirts. Clad in a Velcro bathing suit, the girls can then be dressed up in the included signature tutu dress and an accessory of their choosing. Additional dresses, outfits, and accessories ($12 – $30) can be purchased separately, allowing for multiple outfit changes throughout the day. The children’s shirts — ranging from sizes suitable for kids three and up — are also available in adult versions. Would you buy one for your kid?

Writers aren’t rock stars, but if you’re keen on cracking the spine on the classics you might agree they ought to be. In other words, shouldn’t we idolize James Joyce and F. Scott Fitzgerald as we do the Mick Jaggers of the world? Shouldn’t their work be emblazoned on T-shirts worn proudly, iPhone cases, hell, even coasters? That’s the mission of OutofPrint.com, a small but growing business that creates gorgeous clothing and accessories to commemorate dozens of classics. From Ulysses to The Grapes of Wrath to The Maltese Falcon (shown), “each product is treated to feel soft and worn like a well-read book,” explain the creators. Go ahead, wear your heart on your sleeve.

Pretty City features Lotty Dotty!

As a girl, playing dress-up (and make-up and hair-up) was a staple on my recreational calendar. And yes, I still do it, regularly putting together outfits in advance or trying new makeup looks. Thank goodness I have a job that makes this type of behavior acceptable.  (In fact, it may even be encouraged in my line of work.)

No matter now, since an adorable collection called Lotty Dotty features organic tees inspired by playing dress up with paper dolls.   And, best of all, the screen printed dolls featured on each tee can be dressed interchangeably with Velcro-backed designer outfits. I’m serious.

And, in case you have a “mini me” who will not be pleased if Mom’s the only one in the house who gets to play with dolls, Lotty Dotty tees come sized for girls as young as 4 and as old as, well, me.

DWD’s specialty is producing spaces that are classically modern with hints of the past that complement contemporary living.

Pantone recently announced the punchy shade of Tangerine Tango as the anticipated hue of 2012. Dramatic reddish orange reflects positive energy and warmth; however, for some, it may be too bright and on the cheery side. Here are designer Deborah Wecselman’s tips on adding pop without disappointment:

Go all out: If you are in love with the Pantone suggestion, go all out and coat an entire room with walls of tangerine. Add a few neutral accents (taupe, brown, khaki or cream) to soften the shade.

Ablaze in the bedroom: Mix the shade with patterns and basic white to break up the space. To add modernity to your personal space blend it with other bright hues such as avocado, saffron or fuchsia.

Subtle themes: If you require subtlety with bright accessories, tie in color with accent pieces — chairs, abstract décor and toss pillows. A tangerine hue is very complementary with blues and browns.

Shade simplicity: If more than one piece in tangerine is one too many, use a piece of décor such as coral table accents, throws neatly folded onto couches and chairs or tangerine towels in the bathroom.

College Candy on the Callet

January 23, 2012 – 8:00 am By CC Staff

Everyone who has an iPhone knows this fact: your iPhone might as well be surgically attached to your hand. There is so much to do — between Words With Friends, Facebook, and Angry Birds, I’m actually surprised I’ve not falling into more ditches, what with my habit of walking while trying to beat my friends at Words With Friends. Really, the best part of iPhones is how customizable they are — from your games and apps to what kind of case you get.

And guess what? CollegeCandy is giving you the chance to win one of four awesome iPhone cases from Callet and Opena! The Callet features a slot to store your credit card (great for those nights out on the town!) or your student ID. The Opena is awesome, because it has a slide out bottle opener. C’mon, that’s too cool.

The Callet is a stylish all-in-one smartphone case and wallet for iPhone and BlackBerry and the Opena iPhone 4 Case is a supercool iPhone 4 Case with a slide out bottle opener. Both cases come in different colors and will make you stand out every time you pull your phone out.

That sounds awesome, right? Check out below to find out how to enter!

1. Leave a comment telling us the most awkward phone conversation you’ve ever overheard!(Check here for a trip down bad phone convo memory lane.) Don’t forget to include an e-mail address so we can contact you!

2. The contest ends on January 26th at 11:59pm.

3. Please note this giveaway is only open to US residents. For official rules and more legal mumbo-jumbo, click here.

Stun Your Valentine’s Day Date: Best Prepping Products

Effortless Extensions
If you want to make a dramatic impression on your special someone, consider something like Effortless Extensions’ slip on hair extensions. Priced at only $79.95, these temporary hair extensions are the perfect way to take your locks from mediocre to sensational in just a few minutes. And, thanks to the extensive selection of hair color and styles, you won’t have a hard time finding hair that matches your own. I’ve tried the product myself and was impressed with the quality — thick, natural-looking and easy to style and wash. I also found Effortless Extensions incredibly easy to put on and comfortable to wear. Because of how it slips on, there weren’t any fears of the extensions accidentally falling out. Perfect for a little extra va-va-voom on Valentine’s Day.

‘Out of Print’ Clothing Releases Kids’ T-Shirts Featuring Children’s Books

January 23, 2012 at 10:15 am , by

I’m a big fan of clever and unique t-shirts, especially literary-themed ones from the company Out of Print, which puts familiar and unique covers of famous classic and modern classic books on super soft tees.  (For the record, I own a grayPride and Prejudice tee  and a white The Great Gatsby tee with an art deco design.)

As the Toddlers/Preschoolers editor at Parents.com and a fan of childen’s books, I’m excited that Out of Print launched a collection of kids’ t-shirts showcasing covers of classic and popular children’s books such as The Wizard of Oz,Charlotte’s Web,  The Very Hungry CaterpillarHarold and the Purple CrayonIn the Night Kitchen, Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, and more.

The tees are unisex for ages 2 to 6 and cost between $22-24.  As with all Out of Print t-shirts, for each one sold, one book is donated to a community in need through Books of Africa.

Now, I’m counting down the days until these children’s books make their way onto adult-sized tees…
